Hi, I see that you changed Mail&Guardian to Mail & Guardian. On the newspapers websitethey refer to themselves as Mail&Guardian with no spaces. Can you please show me where the spaces come from. --Jcw69 07:44, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Here you go
Strangely, I do have it – which, due to technical reasons, cannot be said for the vast majority of pictures I uploaded. Still, I no longer have the infrogmation for the original PD link. I do, however, remember that this particular sign is being featured at District Six, so if you are anywhere near the Cape, you may wish to visit the museum and look it up. G'luck with the translation.

Sir Godfrey Martin Huggins
Greetings again, Dewet,
This is a bit of a long-shot, but oh well. I am experiencing difficulties finding a GNU compatible picture of Huggins. I would appreciate any assistance you would be able provide me with – at the moment, I am somewhat at a loss. Thanks.
Yours,
El_C 06:02, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- It was a stretch, but I saw a glimpse of a chance seeing how you're in the region and all. Oh well. Yes, I noticed the changes you made to the sign, nicely done, looks much better now. El_C 09:16, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)
South African location info
I got some books out of the local library on Southern Africa. I think it is an AA book dated 1985 but I will let you know the title when I get home. What I am doing is going through this book and afterwards I will go through the places on the net to update them. What I am worried about is that quite a few names of places have changed since 1994 so I have to try get my hands on a list of all the places that have changed names.--Jcw69 08:21, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC) After most of the places are up I would like to draw some location maps like the ones I am doing for KwaZulu-Natal see: Eshowe and many more.
- For the Western Cape I started List of cities and towns in the Western Cape to give me a starting point. It would be great if you could help. Anyway the book that I am using is "Reader's Digest Illustrated Guide to Southern Africa" ISBN 0947008179. I have the 5th Edition (1985) and it helps a lot with the history of the different places and how they started.--Jcw69 15:37, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- I rewrite the article in keeping only to facts and use the books as to what facts are known about the place ect. (For example when a place was establised and what the name means). I am constantly rewriting parts of the articles when I find new information, in other books or on the internet. I found a lot of books have exactly the same information but worded differently, so I don't think that there is a copyright on that information. I hope this helps--Jcw69 07:52, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)
After my small contribution to the Battle of Spioenkop. I knocked together an article on Deneys Reitz because he is used as a "Further reading" on the page. This lead me to write an article on the Maritz Rebellion. I would appreciate it if you have time to look the two articles over for NPOV and accuracy etc. I know something about Reitz because I bought a copy of his book some years ago, but I did not know anything about the Boer Revolt until just before I wrote the article. Date style
There is no need to edit articles to change the displayed format of dates that are linked, as this is set in your user preferences under the date format section. Thryduulf 17:37, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I reverted your changes to the opening paragraph because I like the way it was better than the way you made it. I reinstated the paragraph about the 2004 election because it is clearly an important part of his biography. Adam 08:32, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I suggest you leave the opening paragraph alone, it is fine as it is. On the election paragraph, if we are writing an article about a party leader, his success or failure at his first election campaign is surely highly relevant, and not "fluff." Adam 08:55, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)
1. There is an established convention for biographical articles in encyclopaedias, which is widely though not universally followed at Wikpedia. It is:
- John Smith (born 1 January 1900), Ruritanian politician, has been Prime Minister of Ruritania since 1995.
The order is thus: Name, date of birth, category, salient facts.
2. If you think the paragraph on the 2004 election is inadequate, then you should expand or correct it, not delete it. Adam 09:26, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Re South African Images
Hi Dewet,
About your questions on FacadeStellenbosch.jpg image: as far as i can remember, it is a picture of a building on Alexander street (or nearby) but i'm not completly sure... perhaps it is the ancient House of Regional Council (?). Nevertheless, it's a wonderful country and place you come from !!
In the initial MonumentFranschhoek.jpg image, my girlfriend was standing at the right bottom of the picture so i had to cut a part of it. That's why only a strip of the monument is visible. This one is much more pretty !!
I've got a few others pictures that i'll add to the Commons as soon as possible (in peculiar St Mary's church and the V.O.C Arsenal (?)).
Regards. Len'Alex 09:45, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- OK, this is done. Have a look at the St Marie's Church and the Arsenal. Regards. Len'Alex 12:04, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hi from Adrian. I'm quite puzzled by your Edit Comment Copyright note removed, Arpingstone removed the photo on the South African Airways article. What does this mean? The B737-800 pic is still there and I have not removed it. In any case, the History for the article doesn't have my name recently. Please explain! I don't like it being said I deleted a pic when I didn't. - Adrian Pingstone 20:55, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- OK, I understand (sort of!) Alls well, Best Wishes - Adrian Pingstone 23:04, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Safarinow
Keep up the good work rooting out safarinow spam.--Magicmike 03:23, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Dear Dewet and all other wiki users,
yes, it is me, the evil he/she/it that spammed the wikipedia with safarinow links. My name is Felix and I deeply regret my actions.
That is why I first of all wanted to apologize to everybody for the damage I did to the wikipedia and for all the trouble I caused!!! I never ment to do any harm to anybody.
I added those links mainly last year, because I thought it would be good, if people could find accommodation in Southern Africa easily. I used safarinow.com myself, when I planned my tours through South Africa and it always worked very well, because it was easy to compare the rates of hotels, B&Bs... and it gave me the possibility to find something also in rural areas. I never meant to make 'big bucks' with it.
I must however admit that the side effect of making at least a few Rand also accured to me and so I added links in a number of articles. But after noticing that they were all sooner or later removed I stopped adding links. I did also not earn anything with these links, so it was anyway a waste of time to add these links. I have searched my contributions for any more links, but found only one (due to the good work of other users) and removed it. I have also placed some links at wikitravel, pointing to some hotels. I will browse the web and try to find the hotels homepages and delete the safarinow links.
To show that I am really sorry, I would like to offer my help to fight spamming the wikipedia. If there is anything I can do, please tell me. Maybe there is somebody else you are tracking or another website that needs to be removed from the wikipedia. Please tell me, so that I can do at least something good to help the wikipedia (despite from writing good articles).
Some anonymous member wrote a note in the forum of my website, saying that he/she wanted to get my safarinow account disabled. This statement is not a try to prevent this. He/she should do whatever he/she thinks is right. I only wrote that to show that I am really, really sorry and that I am not an evil person that wants to harm the wikipedia, because I think it is a great thing and I also use it a lot.
Please let me know, if there is anything I can do,
Felix (Fluglotse2000)
