The IFA was boycotted by Arab and predominantly Muslim members of AFC and was ultimately expelled from the organization, with the policies of the Israeli government and military cited as the reason. This left the IFA without a continental body of which to be a permanent member until it was admitted into UEFA in the early 1990s. UEFA was the only obvious choice as CAF refused to consider IFA membership, and because the geographical separation to every other continental organization was prohibitive in practical terms.
The article states that Israel, between leaving AFC and joining UEFA, played in qualifying tournaments of UEFA, OFC and CONMEBOL. At the World Cup, however, I cannot se that Israel ever played with CONMEBOL. (They played an intercontinental playoff against Colombia to qualify for 1990, but such playoffs have been played between any combination of continents.) Have Israel been part of a CONMEBOL tournament during any other circumstances, for example a youth or women's team, or is the CONMEBOL affiliation a misunderstanding? I removed a depreciated source. In my opinion, one source is acceptable for the claim, but another reliable source may be beneficial if it is available FortunateSons (talk) 17:32, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
